Artist Workshop is a no-cost afterschool program offered by FBCS (also known as CATS (Church Across the Street), due to our location across from Two Rivers/Dos Rios Elementary School. Program staff meet and escort children from Two Rivers/Dos Rios to the church campus.
This year’s Artist Workshops will encourage kids grades K-5, individually or in teams, to explore various art media, including drawing, painting, print-making, sculpture, fiber arts, collage and mixed media, paper- and book-making, puppetry, and photography. Connections will be made with literature, games, and music.
This Free Program Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays
and follows the SPS school calendar

Enrollment is limited to insure a proper ratio of staff to children, as well as range of children’s ages.

Artist’s Workshop will be delivered in the fashion of an educational studio, in which some instruction is offered along with free time for exploring the medium of the child’s choice. Throughout the year, “Creation Stations” will include drawing/painting, sculpture, fiber arts, collage and mixed media, bookmaking, photography, printmaking, and so on. One permanent Creation Station – the “Tech Time” corner – allows up to three kids to explore artistic media, transfer photos of works-in-progress or art-in-nature.
The second, but equally important focus of our programing is the Creation Station called “The Family Table.” We are committed to outreach in our community to children and families who are food-insecure. During the school year, for example, we enlist the FBCS congregation in gathering crockpots and recipes for healthy one-pot meals. Twice each month, children select a recipe, shop for and prepare the ingredients, cook the meal, taste it, and then deliver the crockpot and dinner to a family in the neighborhood.
